Caustic soda flakes is obtained from sodium hydroxide -technical grade.
It is a solid white, hygroscopic, odorless substance.
Caustic soda flakes easily dissolves in water, with heat release. The product is soluble in methyl and
ethyl alcohols.
Sodium hydroxide is a strong electrolyte (completely ionized both in crystalline and solution states).
Sodium hydroxide is not volatile, but it rises easily in air as aerosols. It is insoluble in ethyl ether.

Precipitant
caustic soda can be used to precipitate transition metal hydroxides.
Hydrolysis
caustic soda can be used for the base-driven hydrolysis of esters (as in saponification), amides and alkyl halides.
Paper making
Caustic Soda plays a key role in several later stages of the process of bleaching the brown pulp resulting from the pulping process
Tissue digestion
Caustic Soda is frequently used in the process of decomposing roadkill dumped in landfills by animal disposal contractors.
Cleaning agent
Caustic Soda is frequently used as an industrial cleaning agent and added to water, heated, and then used to clean process equipment, storage tanks, etc.
