Gypsum-Based Tape-Joint Compounds and Crack Fillers
Cellulose ethers are multifunctional additives for ready-mixes and dry-mix products. The water retention properties of cellulose additives increase open time and impart workability, lubricity, shrink and crack resistance, void reduction, and adhesion. In dry mix systems, Joinway products ensure fast hydration for reliable performance.
1) Easy Mixing
In both ready-mix and dry-mix products, cellulose ethers enhance the lubricity of the dispersed particles for a smooth, homogeneous crack filler. Delayed soluble Grades of Joinway cellulose ethers are available with delayed solubility for better performance where cold water dispersibility is needed.
2) Improved Workability and Productivity
Cellulose ethers greatly improve water retention, significantly extending the working time and allowing larger batches to be mixed and applied. Longer water retention allows gypsum in the mix to fully hydrate and develop high mechanical strength; the improved plasticity gives a smooth "feel" that users appreciate.
3) Enhanced Final Properties
Materials that contain cellulose ethers resist shrinkage and crack formation and dry with a homogenous surface. Cellulose additives enhance adhesive properties for greater resistance to sagging. And because all grades of Joinway cellulose are white powders, they help maintain desired product color.
Cement-Based Tile Adhesives

Cement-Based Plasters
Joinway cellulose ethers are essential components of successful cement-based plaster formulations. Plaster must retain enough water for proper setting of the cement and to achieve high mechanical strength. Joinway cellulose ethers improve water retention of cement-based plasters and offer these additional advantages:
1)Easy Mixing
Joinway cellulose ethers, in plaster grades, dissolve very quickly, allowing the complete dispersion of all dry particles. Joinway additives enhance the lubricity of dispersed particles resulting in a smooth, homogeneous plaster. The surface activity of Joinway products helps entrain additional air for improved workability.
2)Application
Joinway cellulose ethers improve the rheology of the plaster for excellent workability and consistency. Improved consistency allows smoothing and evening without sagging. Joinway products give the plaster an ideal amount of stickiness so it adheres to the substrate wall, not to the working trowel. The high water retention properties of Joinway cellulose ethers also prolong working time.
Machine plaster requires a cellulose ether which dissolves very quickly, builds up consistency before the plaster is on the substrate, and shows no post-thickening on the wall. Joinway cellulose ethers help produce a plaster with good pumpability, excellent workability characteristics, easy finishing, and a homogenous surface.
3)Final Plaster Properties

Paint and Paint Removers
Joinway cellulose ethers offer flexibility during formulation. They can be dispersed in water or glycol when added to the pigment, or can be dispersed as a powder in the pigment before the addition of water.
During paint manufacture, Joinway cellulose ethers lubricate the pigment mix, reducing friction between particles and facilitating grinding at high shear rates.
Joinway cellulose ethers increase your products' viscosity, thickening the paint and enhancing coverage. And Joinway additives improve flow characteristics, providing low spattering and good leveling so good results are quick and economical.

Joinway cellulose ethers are chemically inert and are thus highly compatible with other paint components. There are Joinway grades available that offer high resistance to biological breakdown to ensure longer shelf life.
Both water-based and methyl chloride-based paint removers can be made highly viscous with Joinway cellulose ethers so they will remain in place while the paint is dissolved.

Storage and inventory control
In the dry state cellulose is resistant to microbial and enzymatic degradation, but does not function as bactericide or fungicide itself. lt must be stored dry in tightly closed containers. Don't put them together with other chemicals.
